Total cost of a bronze you create $30.00

If you ever thought about becoming an artist, maybe a sculptor, here's your chance to give it a try. SPH has put together a program called "Bronze Casting Workshop in a Bag." For the staggeringly low price of $30.00 and a can of beans (without the beans) you can create a bronze sculpture the old fashioned way-through the lost wax process of bronze casting. We highly recommend that schoolteachers take advantage of this opportunity to educate students (6 years and up) about art and the creative process. You can purchase "Bronze Casting Workshop in a Bag" at the same location you deliver your finished wax sculpture/s to. The initial cost is $5.00 for the informational booklet and wax. For all the details on this offer click the icon above.

If you already purchased "Bronze Casting Workshop in a Bag" and have finished creating your wax sculpture you can deliver it to any of the locations listed in SPH MENU. Click on the icon above for locations. To have your sculpture poured at a particular time and location deliver it to us at least two weeks in advance of the bronze pour of choice. Check the HOME page on this for BCWB Events.
If you're interested in watching your wax sculpture being turned into bronze you can do so by coming to the bronze pour demonstrations SPH conducts at various locations. Check the HOME page on this web site for details.
Outside the Denver area.
Just about anyone can participate in the "Bronze Casting Workshop in a Bag". Mail $6.00 ($5.00 for instructional booklet and wax and $1.00 for postage) to SPH ARTFUNCTIONS. Create your wax sculpture with the wax and mail it back to us in a #10 tin can. A coffee tin with a plastic resealable lid is ideal for shipping your wax sculpture to us. We'll produce the bronze sculpture and mail it to you after we receive full payment.

Portable Foundry
foundary-03.jpeg
Constructed out of discarded metal, clothes drier drum, 55 gallon drum, pipe and a few special materials and equipment this homemade foundry works as good as the store bought one. This is the setup we use to do bronze pours on the road. It takes a 4-gallon (25 lbs) tank of propane to melt 210 lbs of bronze in 1:20 min.

Slide Lecture, Bronze Casting Demonstration and/or Workshop

Proposal #1: Lecture
Mark Guilbeau will give a slide lecture entitled Liberating the Imagination. This includes a (cold ) show and tell of the bronze casting process with examples of molds, waxes, and cast bronze.
Proposal #2: Lecture & Bronze Casting Demonstration
Mark Guilbeau will give a slide lecture entitled Liberating the Imagination. This includes a show and tell of the bronze casting process with examples of molds, waxes, and cast bronze. The culmination will be a bronze pour using a portable furnace and equipment. The cost of such a demonstration involves supply of gas, transport & labor.
Proposal #3: Lecture & Bronze Casting Workshop
Mark Guilbeau will give a slide lecture entitled Liberating the Imagination. This includes a show and tell of the bronze casting process with examples of molds, waxes, and cast work. The workshop with us occurs over two class periods. The first class will be the lecture and where the students begin to form wax into sculptures. The second will be the bronze pour. At our first meeting I will demonstrate to the classroom teacher the various stages which they will need to complete with the students in preparation for the burnout and pour. A number a class periods will need to be devoted as follows; compete a wax sculpture, attach a straw and toothpick sprue system and invest the pieces in a plaster and sand mix in coffee/bean cans. These molds need to be delivered for dewaxing and burnout and returned to campus for the pour. The pieces will be de-sprued before delivery for students to finish, chase and apply patina. The cost of such a workshop will depend on the number of students in the workshop as well as the size of individual pieces. Class times can be determined to best suit the school.
